We are always in need of adult education tutors. We provide one-on-one tutoring to adults in reading, writing, math, and basic computer literacy. All tutors are volunteers and instruction is free of charge. Sessions are usually an hour and a half long for one day each week. We are open Mondays through Thursdays from 9 am until 8 pm. All tutoring is done here at the center and tutors select the day and time. For more information, please view our website: sienaliteracy.org http://www.sienaliteracy.org
Twice a year we conduct a tutor training workshop that certifies tutors in the Laubach method of reading. One may begin tutoring without attending the workshop, but we do expect attendance at a workshop at some time. A staff member will prepare the tutor for a specific student before they meet with their student for the first time. This opportunity is sponsored by: Siena Literacy Center

Overall Experience
Rewarding
 |
I've been tutoring a Polish speaking student for over 10 months now (once a week, hour and a half sessions). The Siena Literacy Center provides all of the tools, lession plans, etc. that I need to help my student learn English. This experience has been very rewarding and I plan on continuing to tutor my student for as long as she needs me. posted by Danee47 on February 16, 2006 |
Overall Experience
Great experience, I've learned quite a few teaching skills from tutoring.

I meet with an adult and tutor him in reading and writing. We meet once a week for about an hour and half. I've learned different teaching approaches and I better understand the difficulty in learning the rules of grammar. This experience has been very valuable and fun. posted by Midgee110977 on September 23, 2003 |
