Participate in the Accounting Aid Society's free Tax Assistance Program by staffing one of our 25 tax sites for three or more Saturdays or evenings. Annually, we assist thousands of low-income families receive much-needed tax refunds and credits. Volunteers are needed to assist low-income families in southeastern Michigan receive much-needed tax refunds and credits. No experience is needed, just a desire to learn the basic tax law applicable to low-income families and the time to help. Please join the over 700 volunteers who helped return $10.8 million to over 12,500 low-income households in 2008.
Training is required and provided prior to working at a tax site. Several options are available. If space is available at your organization, training can be arranged before, during, or after work. This is even more effective if a computer lab is available for training on our tax software. Accounting Aid Society is prepared to provide the instructors needed to properly train your volunteers in tax law as well as procedural and administrative aspects. Another option is to have your volunteers attend one of the many training sessions provided by Accounting Aid Society for all volunteers in January.
