The American Red Cross,a humanitarian organization led by volunteers and guided by its Congressional Charter and the Fundamental Principles of the International Red Cross Movement, will provide direct relief to disaster victims and help people prevent, prepare for, and respond to emergencies.

Description:
The American Red Cross is chartered (but not funded) by Congress to provide emergency assistance to victims of disasters. We are the recognized agency in all federal, state and county emergency plans to provide shelter, food, welfare inquiries and other basic emergency needs in single family and mass disaster relief operations. We also provide emergency communications and other support services to active duty military personnel and their families. We provide training in Basic Disaster Preparedness, First Aid, CPR, Automated External Defibrulation, Water Safety, Family Caregiving, and other skills. We depend on volunteers to lead and deliver services in the eight counties served by this Chapter.

History:
The Southwestern New Mexico Chapter was chartered on May 29, 1916. Since that time, it has been in continuous service to the residents of Dona Ana County and the surrounding area.We now serve eight counties, and have offices in Silver City, Alamogordo, and Roswell.
