The Alzheimer's Association's Mission is to eliminate Alzheimer's disease through the advancement of research; to provide and enhance care and support for all affected; and to reduce the risk of dementia through the promotion of brain health.
Description: The Alzheimer's Association of Greater Idaho is a member of the National Alzheimer's Association. Our office is located in Boise, Idaho and we serve the people of Idaho and SE Oregon. Contributions stay in Greater Idaho to help the Association provide services and support for persons diagnosed with Alzheimer's and their families and caregivers in Idaho. A small percentage of donations are forwarded to research organizations through the National office in Chicago. The Association offers ongoing free orientation and care consultations for people with Alzheimer's disease, memory problems or dementia and their families and friends. We also have an annual Education conference, and we work with the Safe Return program which assists in the safe and timely return of memory-impaired individuals with Alzheimer's disease and people with related dementia who wander and become lost. We also have support groups statewide to assist the caregivers. Our sessions are not only free but interesting, fun and informative bringing about life style changes for all.
History: The Greater Idaho Alzheimer's Association is one of more than 82 nationwide Chapters associated with the National Alzheimer's Association. Incorporated in 1984 by concerned families struggling with Alzheimer's disease, the Association represents a direct link with the community and the patients and families who need care and support. Services are provided to more than 34 counties in Idaho, including support groups statewide. The Association is committed to integrating the national initiatives of advocacy, research and the Safe Return program into its priorities, but is designed to develop local programs, such as education programs, family consultation, caregiver trainings, support groups and respite care that will meet the ongoing challenges faced by patients and families trying to cope with the devastation of this disease.
