[ View Opportunities ]

Our primary mission is to provide low-cost and no-cost spay/neuter services for families truly in need, for certain canine breeds disproportionately euthanized, and for feral cat colonies that are traditionally overlooked. Our secondary mission is to facilitate collaboration among animal rescue groups, animal control agencies, shelters and concerned citizens in Idaho to more effectively address companion animal overpopulation and its tragic consequences.
Description:
The Auxiliary is composed solely of volunteers, all working to end the killing of healthy animals. Our focus is on low-cost and no-cost spay/neuter programs supported by educational outreach promoting humane, responsible care and treatment of animals. With your help the Auxiliary will be able to 1) extend services to outlying areas that lack access to spay/neuter; 2) conduct fundraising events to support our programs; and 3) develop a legislative strategy to improve care and treatment of companion animals.
History:
In 1982 the Auxiliary was established as part of the Idaho Humane Society and assisted with adoptions, fundraising, and other facets of the organization. After attaining independent nonprofit 501(c)3 status, the Auxiliary established a low-cost spay/neuter program through a voucher system at the Idaho Humane Society Clinic. Although the program ended in 2006, demand for low-cost and no-cost sterilization has continued to grow, compelling the Auxiliary to renew its commitment to address animal overpopulation. By mobilizing shelters, rescues, and animal control agencies to share resources and information, we will all be able to maximize the impact of our efforts.
