Description:
Learning Lab provides three types of literacy classes: Adult Basic Skills, English Language Learning, and Preschoolers & Parents as Partners Family Literacy. We help functionally illiterate adults become better citizens, workers and community members. We help families break the cycle of illiteracy by preparing young children for success in school, helping parents to be their child's first teacher and providing resources for creating a positive learning environment at home.
Adults improve their literacy skills by working on educational software that is designed to fill the gaps in their learning and allows each of them to work at their own pace and level. Trained volunteer tutors are a vital component of the Learning Lab's curriculum, working with students 1-on-1 or in small groups to practice reading, writing, math, spelling or conversation skills. Volunteers in the early childhood classrooms work under the supervision of the educators to give children the individual attention and encouragement they need to reach important developmental milestones.

History:
Learning Lab began in 1991 as Literacy Lab, a project of the Junior League of Boise. Learning Lab is an independent, non-profit organization located on the 4th floor of the Boise Public Library building, and on October 2, 2006, opened the Anna Margaret Jones Center for Learning at 308 E. 36th St. in Garden City.

Take Orchard St. north across Chinden Blvd. Orchard becomes 36th St. Go to the end of the road. Learning Lab is on the left side at the end, next to the Head Start Center.
