Animals In Distress Association(AIDA), is a non-profit volunteer organization dedicated to the rescue, rehabilitation and successful release of injured, displaced and orphaned wildlife. As our population grows, so does the impact on local wildlife with loss of habitat, human interference, pollution, injuries by domestic pets, hunting, trapping, automobile mishaps, poisoning and acts of cruelty.
Description:
AIDA rehabilitates both mammals and birds year-round. Wildlife care is done at the homes of individual state and/or federally licensed rehabilitators. Except April-August, when we operate a centralized facility, the Ruth Melichar Bird Center. The Center takes in over 2800 birds in these five months. The RMBC is open 7 days a week 8 am to 8 pm. AIDA has a 24-hour hotline number, which provides the names and phone numbers of individuals who volunteer their services.
History:
AIDA was founded in 1987 by a group of individuals who recognized the need for organized wildlife rehabilitation in the state of Idaho. AIDA is funded entirely by annual membership fees, contributions and fundraising events and receives no city, county, state or federal funding.
