Whitney United Methodist Church's mission is to seek to make the world a better place to live in all ways: physical, emotional, and spiritual. In this manner, our primary area of assistance is the local Bench community where we are located-one of the poorest sections of Boise.
Description:
We are a worshiping community that serves our local community through three feeding programs, a clothing program, and other fun-based activities for children and their families. We have recently been awarded a second Fred Meyer grant for the social service work we do. We feed roughly 1,000 people per month through our Saturday Lunch program (every Saturday from 11:30 AM-1:00 PM), our Peter's Pantry foodbox program (Mon.-Fri., 9:30 AM-12:30 PM), our Friday Night Bench Community Supper program (third Fridays, 6:00-7:00 PM) as well as providing NEW coats, hats, scarves, and gloves through our Joseph's Closet program (winter season). We also volunteer in mentoring assistance at our local primary school, Whitney elementary as well as ministering to those in jail and prison through visitation and spiritual growth. We believe in our community's future and seek to make a positive contribution to it.
History:
Established in 1941 with eight people, today Whitney United Methodist Church averages 200 in worship in two Sunday services every Sunday morning. We have been dedicated to serving our local community for years by placing a strong emphasis on social justice services for the poor and downtrodden of our society. Our outreach programs have a significant impact on bettering the lives of hundreds of our residents.
