The Greater Pocatello Senior Center's mission is to provide a nutritious hot noon meal for senior citizens, many of whom are unable either physically or financially to provide for themselves.
Description:
The Senior Center has about 600 members, about 40% of whom are at nutritional risk and about 90% of whom have incomes at or below the poverty level. The Center serves a hot lunch at the site five days a week. Home delivered meals are also available for members who are temporarily unable to come to the Center through the Meals on Wheels program. The Center is also a major factor in the social life of members, providing opportunities for card games, pool, dances, bingo games and other social activities.
History:
The Senior Center was founded about 25 years ago. The current facility is located at 427 N. 6th Avenue, Pocatello, ID 83201. The Center is governed by a 15 member board of directors, nine of whom are members and the remaining 6 from the community and local government.
