BabySteps welcomes pregnant, limited-income women and their families into a program of education and support to achieve healthy births and strong families.
Description:
St. Michael's Episcopal Cathedral has a long history of outreach to the community. Located in the lower level of the Carnagie building at Eighth Street and Washington in downtown Boise, St. Michael's chooses to use it resources to help those in need. BabySteps is supported by St. Michael's and operated with many volunteers from the cathedral and community partners. The BabySteps program offers classes and support to women in the context of an incentive program. Volunteers teach classes, help in the incentive shop, nurture babies and moms and provide support that strengthens families.
History:
BabySteps Prenatal & Parenting Education Program began at St. Michael’s Cathedral in February 2003. Since opening, Baby Steps has welcomed over 700 limited-income women, along with their families into a program of education and support to promote healthier pregnancies, babies and families by increasing knowledge, empathy and support. We believe that gains in each of these areas helps participants develop positive parenting practices to promote optimal child development and prevent child abuse and neglect
