The mission of the Ada County 4-H is to empower youth to reach their full potential through working and learning in partnership with caring adults.

Description:
4-H is a community of young people across America who are learning leadership, citizenship and life skills. 4-H members are 8 - 18 years old, cloverbud members are 5 - 7 years old.

4-H is an experiential youth development program for boys and girls. 4-H is offered in many ways including: clubs, after school, school enrichment and overnight and day camps.

Adult volunteers help 4-H youth learn practical life skills and gain subject matter knowledge though project activities. Life skills are "skills that help an individual to be successful in living a productive and satisfying life" such as: social skills, conflict resolution, cooperation, communication, keeping records, planning and organizing, goal setting, service learning, problem solving, decision making, teamwork and leadership.

History:
The 4-H program is part of the nationwide educational system of the Cooperative Extension System - a three way partnership of the county governments, the state land-grant universities and the U.S. Department of Agriculture. 4-H is the largest youth serving organization in America with approximately five million members and half a million volunteers.

The first 4-H clubs were Boys' and Girls' Clubs organized in Idaho schools in the 1911-1912 school year. In 1914 the Boys' and Girls' Clubs were transferred to the Extension Service from the Department of Public Instruction becoming 4-H. The 4-H's are - head, heart, hands and health.

The 4-H program is for all youth, urban as well as rural.
