UCP of Idaho offers people with disabilities and their service providers the opportunity to borrow assistive technology--the tools that help them maintain or increase their independence--to learn what works for them, and what doesn't. Our services increase their independence and improve their lives. Through the use of assistive devices and related services, people with disabilities are able to learn, take care of themselves, communicate, be employed, and be fully included in their communities.United Cerebral Palsy of Idaho served over 8,000 people in 2004. Approximately 85% of those served were children attending public schools in Idaho.
Description:
Our loaning library allows people with disabilities the opportunity to try a device in order to make a meaningful determination about its appropriateness before money is invested on their part or the part of their providers. The developmental and adapted toys assist children with disabilities with a variety of cognitive and motor skills, and provide an opportunity for better brain development, as well as play and enjoyment. The UCP of Idaho computer lab allows people with any disability of any age to gain computer access to improve their lives. Lab participants have access to a wide array of alternative computer hardware and specialized software that enables them to use a computer no matter what their limitation. If a participant has no more motor capability than the blink of an eye, the Computer Lab program can provide that participant computer access. Items in the Lab vary from those as simple as an ergonomic keyboard to those as complex as an infrared mouse alternative. Participants use the Lab to practice computer skills, and/or to improve motor skills or cognitive functions.

UPC was incorporated as a 501 (c) (3) charitable non-profit in 1954. We were formed as a United Cerebral Palsy Association affiliate at that time. The purpose of our organization is to assist persons with disabilities in achieving their full potential. Chiefly, we accomplish this mission through the provision of assistive technology services
