Mission: The Idaho Foodbank, in an efficient and caring manner, provides food, information, and supportive services to hungry people through partnerships with non-profit agencies, the food industry, government, volunteers, corporations, and individuals by serving as a central clearinghouse for donated and purchased food.

Vision: We work toward ensuring that no one living in The Idaho Foodbank's service area goes hungry.

Description:
The Idaho Foodbank exists to acquire, safely store, and distribute donated and purchased grocery products to its membership of frontline agencies. These agencies, in turn, distribute these products to the constituency they serve at no cost to any consumer. The Foodbank utilizes a number of strategies to reach as many low-income, food-insecure people as possible, including marginalized, hard-to-reach populations. Such strategies include administering programs of focused outreach. Chefs to the Rescue, a program to feed homeless or near-homeless individuals and families, and Kids Cafe, a feeding program for low-income children, are examples of the Foodbank's outreach efforts.

History:
The Foodbank has grown exponentially since its inception in 1984. The organization was created by a group of farsighted individuals who recognized the need for a statewide organization to fight hunger in Idaho. In 1985, its first year of operation, the Foodbank distributed 250,000 pounds of food statewide. By contrast, in 2004, it distributed over 5 million pounds of food to the hungry citizens of the state.

Today, the Foodbank is the single largest charitable distributor of food in Idaho. It is responsible for providing food to over 200 non-profit agencies statewide - from small food pantries in isolated communities to well-known national organizations in our cities. It is volunteer-based, with over 10,000 volunteers having contributed more than 45,000 hours of service in 2006. Volunteers, drawn from all sectors of the community, enable the organization to keep administrative costs at 8.02%.

More than 20 years after its inception, The Idaho Foodbank remains the largest charitable distributor of donated food, and it is the only organization in the state whose mission is solely devoted to the acquisition and distribution of food to the state's impoverished individuals and families.
