The Arc Inc. is committed to securing for people with disabilities the opportunity to choose and realize their goals of where and how they live, learn, work, and play. We have a variety of programs designed to promote independence and community integration for people with mental health issues, developmental disabilities, mental retardation or physical disabilities.
Description:
The Arc Inc. is a private non-profit agency dedicated to assisting people with disabilities. The goal of all programs is to assist people to become more independent in all areas of their lives. Through life skill training, people with developmental disabilities or mental retardation can increase skills in areas to include money management, social interaction, meal preparation and grooming and hygiene. These services can be provided in a person's home or at our center. In the work services program people are able to become employees of The Arc and learn needed skills to increase their ability to obtain a community based job. Enclaves at four local sites are also part of this program. For individuals who do not require a structured vocational setting, The Arc can assist people in finding community based jobs and learning the skills needed to maintain employment. Through RAVE persons with disabilities can enjoy and participate in community wide dances, art classes, bingo, taking trips and much more. The Arc serves junior high students with disabilities, teaching them pre-vocational skills. The Arc also operates two assisted living facilities in the Boise area.
History:
The Arc was founded in 1956 by a small group of parents who, concerned by the lack of services in their community, began a school for their sons and daughters. Throughout the years The Arc has grown based on the needs of individuals served and community changes.
