Friends in Action Our Community Serving Seniors Friends in Action is a non-profit, collaborative organization dedicated to sustaining quality of life, dignity, and independence for older persons and their families through education and volunteerism.
Description:
Friends in Action is a coalition of volunteers, families, service agencies, community groups and businesses dedicated to nurturing and sustaining quality of life for fragile seniors. Trained volunteers are matched with seniors to provide informal care giving and companionship. Our objective is to help people who are aging and chronically ill maintain their independence by providing assistance with everyday activities. The Boise based program provides transportation, chore services, respite, and visiting at no charge regardless of age, income, race or creed.
History:
Friends in Action (FIA) officially became the new name for Faith in Action of Boise, Inc. in October of 2008. FIA came to life in January 2004. Faith In Action of Boise, Inc. was one of more than 1,000 programs started through a national initiative of the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation to foster coalitions of interfaith volunteer caregivers. In nearly five years, we have provided thousands of hours of service. Each month 30 to 50 volunteers provide friendly visits, help with shopping, transportation, yard work, minor home repairs and maintenance.
