Everybody Benefits! is ACORN’s groundbreaking campaign to build wealth in communities like yours. The ACORN Institute has found that every year, American families miss out on billions of dollars in tax credits and benefits they deserve. At the ACORN Tax and Benefit Access Center in your community, it’s an easy way for low-income families to claim what's theirs today. ACORN believes in FINANCIAL JUSTICE and is looking for volunteers to help do taxes, help families apply for federal and state benefits, and get families involved in community campaigns that further the interests of low-to-moderate income families. This makes a real difference in people's everyday lives!
The training requirements depend on which volunteer opportunity to which you are applying. The Tax Preparer is responsible for preparing current, prior year, and amended federal and state income tax returns. The Tax Preparer is also responsible, when necessary, for screening and enrolling clients in federal and state benefit programs. The Tax Preparer reports to the Site Supervisor. Tax preparers are required to pass the IRS Link & Learn test, and the ACORN tax prep test, both of which the Site Coordinator can help you with.
