Vision Statement: To be the primary fund-raiser to measurably improve the human condition in Wayne County.
Mission Statement:
To increase the capacity of the people of Wayne County to care for one another by identifying human needs and supporting programs that have the greatest impact on improving lives.
History:
In the year 2000, United Way of Wayne County celebrated it's 75th Anniversary. A lot has changed for us over the last 75 years, but our vision to be the primary fund-raiser to measurably improve the human condition in Wayne County has remained the same.
The funds from the first campaign in 1925 addressed some of the same community needs that we still face today; depression, homelessness, and misdirected youth. In fact, four of our currently funded agencies began back in 1925: Boy Scouts, Girl Scouts, Salvation Army and American Red Cross.
The very first campaign ran for only one day, Wednesday, December 2, 1925 and raised $27,774.96 - exceeding the $25,000 goal. As the community needs changed and increased, so did the format and goals of the annual campaign.
