The American Red Cross is a humanitarian organization led by volunteers, that provides relief to the victims of disasters and helps people prevent, prepare for and respond to emergencies. It does this through the services that are consistent with its congressional charter and the fundamental principles of the International Red Cross movement.
Description:
The Wayne County Chapter of the American Red Cross is the primary source of preparedness and response education in Wayne Co. We offer a variety of health and safety courses such as CPR & First Aid. We also train individuals in the use of automated external defibrillators (AEDs) and teach AIDS education throughout the county. We work closely with the school system presenting our Home Alone program to students in the elementary schools and also do blood education at all grade levels. Along with Goldsboro Parks and Recreation, we sponsor a Water Safety Awareness Program to 2nd & 3rd graders every spring. The Wayne County Chapter oversees the collection of blood at over 190 blood drives each year in our area. Meanwhile your Red Cross chapter continues to respond to local disasters, including single family fires. When needed the chapter assists soldiers and their families before, during, and after they are deployed for active duty. Being prepared is important now more than ever. With the help of volunteers, we continue to provide all of these lifesaving and critical programs and services.
History:
The United States Congress formed the American Red Cross through a Congressional Charter in 1905, partially to meet our nation's responsibilities as part of the Geneva Conventions.
