The Hispanic Community Development Centers 5th Annual 3 Kings Festival-Dia De Los 3 Reyes Mago ![]() | |||||
![]() January 6 is old Christmas here or Epiphany. By Hispanic and European tradition the 3 Kings day is the end of the Christmas Holiday. This is the day that the kings arrived with the gifts for baby Jesus. So it's the 3 kings that bring the gifts not Santa. We use the Waynesborough Park because of the buildings there. We do the procession of Mary and Joseph going from building to building seeking a place to sleep. By our tradition, we sing as we go to each house ( this is called the Paseo). There are Christmas carols( some are English carols sung in Spanish). We usually have the choir from a church and a 3 string guitar players for the music. We get people from the audience that are willing to participate and be the home owners and turn Mary and Joseph away. The procession gets larger for as they leave the home, those people join the procession. They end up at he manger with Mary and Joseph and the placement of baby Jesus. Then comes the arrival of the 3 Kings. They kneel to the baby and more songs are sung. That ends that part of the event. Hispanic dancers perform from different countries, we have games for the kids and of course the PiƱatas. Some of the stuff is free. Then we have vendors to provide different types of food for sale. During the festival the 3 Kings pass out gifts to the children and pictures are taken with the kings. So the event is important to both the Hispanics and Americans. This is an event that requires volunteers in areas such as: parking area, help with the set up and taking down of booths, clean up of park and run game booths. We need volunteers 2 hours prior to event start time, during event and 2 hours after event ends. This opportunity is sponsored by: Hispanic Community Development Center We need volunteers who are free at these times
