The mission of RSVP is to provide individuals age 55 and older the opportunity to impact their community by volunteering their time, experience, and knowledge. This enhances the lives of the volunteers and the community in which they serve.
Description:
The purpose of RSVP is to offer meaningful opportunities for men and women 55 years and older to remain or become active in their community through volunteer service. RSVP strives to improve the quality of life of the community by placing volunteers to work with others to help solve community problems. RSVP volunteers provide much needed support to non-profit agencies and organizations. The service provided by volunteers has a positive economic impact on the organizations and communities served.
History:
The United States Congress, through the Corporation For National and Community Service has funded the RSVP program for over 30 years. Currently 750 RSVP projects throughout the country have a membership of over 450,000 seniors. Locally, the Bristol Community Organization sponsors RSVP in the city of Bristol and the towns of Plainville, Burlington, and Plymouth. An average of 350 volunteers provide over 40,00 hours of volunteer service annually to their communities. Funding is also provided by the State of Connecticut DSS/Elderly Services Division, and United Way of West Central Connecticut. No experience is necessary just a desire to help.
