St. Philip House provides scattered site housing and social services to HIV+ individuals and their families and loved ones in an atmosphere honoring the inherent dignity of each individual while also providing AIDS prevention education to interested school and civic groups.
Description:
St. Philip House provides: rental and mortgage assistance to HIV+ individuals at risk for homelessness, case management services, coordination of services, support groups, educational assistance and job retraining opportunities, social and educational outings to alleviate social isolation. In 1999, St. Philip House adopted a sister agency in Lima, Peru to help stem the suffering the AIDS pandemic has wrought world wide. La Posadita del Buen Pastor provides housing and medical services to mothers and children afflicted with the virus.
History:
Since 1990, St. Philip House has provided housing for HIV+ individuals and their families and loved ones while also providing award-winning AIDS prevention education. Initially, clients were assisted in their search to find suitable rental housing. In 1994, their first building which consists of the administrative offices and eight- one bedroom handicapped accessable apartments was opened. In 1996, a single family house was purchased. Today, 40% of the clients are served in these residences while the other 60% are served in rental or owner occupied properties in Plainville and surrounding towns.
