Montana's Self-Help Law Centers are dedicated to ensuring equal access to justice by providing legal information to individuals who are representing themselves in court.

Description:
The Montana Self-Help Law Program is an initiative of the Supreme Court of Montana to address the needs of individuals with non-criminal legal problems who cannot or choose not to be represented by an attorney. The vast majority of individuals served cannot afford representation, and need to represent themselves. The mission of the Self-Help Law Program is to ensure equal access to justice by providing these individuals with the information they need to go to court. The Self-Help Law Program does not provide legal advice; rather, it directs individuals to legal resources. Volunteers are not required or expected to have legal experience, only a desire to serve their community and a commitment to the concept of equal access to the legal system. Because each Self-Help Center only has one full time staff person, volunteers are absolutely essential to ensuring that the needs of individuals seeking legal information are met, and that equal access to the justice system is a reality. For questions or to obtain an application, please contact selfhelpvols@mt.gov.
