St. John's Lutheran Ministries is a community of diverse people sharing God's healing presence. Our mission is to provide living opportunities within nurturing environments of hope, dignity and love.

Description:
As a ministry of the church and a not-for-profit corporation, St. John's is committed to: being a mission directed organization, whose source is God's Word of love and hope to all humanity through the gift of Jesus Christ;providing a continuum of housing opportunities and supportive services primarily for older persons;providing appropriate care, service, employment and volunteer opportunities to all people without regard to: religion, race, gender, age, marital status, disability or financial status; being an innovative leader in our field and sharing our knowledge and gifts;taking risks on behalf of people in need; practicing good stewardship through wise management of our gifts and resources; developing faithful effective collaborations and partnerships within and beyond the Lutheran Church; being a place where all people are recognized and celebrated as both givers and receivers of love.

History:
St. John's was formed in 1960 through the vision and commitment of local Lutheran churches. On November 19, 1963 the doors to St. John's were opened to people of all faiths. We have continued to serve elders for the past forty years and now also provide care to children from birth through sixth grade in our Center for Generations Child Care Center which is open to children of employees as well as the public. Volunteers have always played a very important role at St. John's beginning with our Auxiliary which was formed in 1962 with members from our various corporate churches. The original focus was "to render Christian service to St. John's Lutheran Home, its residents and its programs through ways approved or proposed by its board of directors." This dedicated group has never wavered from this purpose. They have faithfully given service to St. John's and the residents in a wide variety of ways such as personal shopping, birthday parties, sewing and mending, bake sales etc. There are many other opportunities to volunteer which are as diverse as the interests of our volunteers. Some of the present areas of volunteer service include: Adopt a Grandparent, baking, bingo, Center for Generations-child daycare, coffee corner, escorts to medical appointments and outings, letter writing and reading, manicures, music, Senior Day Service, sewing, shopping, worship, and friendly visiting.
