The mission of the United Way of Yellowstone County is "to improve lives by mobilizing the caring power of our community." As a community-building organization, the United Way mobilizes people, financial and strategic resources to address priority needs and provide solutions that achieve measurable results and sustained community change.
Description:
The United Way of Yellowstone County includes an internal Volunteer Center. The organization is a member of the United Way of America and the Points of Light Foundation and the Volunteer Center National Network. It engages in a variety of activities to mobilize the assets and resources of the community including:
identification of community conditions and selection of priorities for developing solutions;
organization of a community-wide fund-raising campaign raising over $1,500,000 annually to address local issues;
coordination of a citizen review process involving
community volunteers to recommend the distribution of funds to support essential direct services provided by local agencies;
mobilization of people and groups: connecting them to opportunities to serve, building the capacity for effective local volunteering (training, consulting and technical assistance) and participating in strategic initiatives that engage volunteers in seeking solutions to community problems;
service as a convener, facilitator and grant administrator for the community to address targeted issues and to promote collaboration and partnerships.
History:
The United Way of Yellowstone County was incorporated in 1961. Before becoming the United Way of Yellowstone County, the organization was known as Billings United Neighbors. The United Way's annual fund-raising efforts have exceeded $1,000,000 for over thirteen years.
