Big Brothers Big Sisters of Yellowstone County's mission is To help children reach their potential through professionally supported one-to-one mentoring relationships.
Description:
BBBS matches Yellowstone (and soon Carbon) County children from ages 4 (at Head Start) to 18 with fully-screened and oriented teens and adults. Volunteers are matched with children based on shared interests and other compatability factors. Matches meet either in the community or at approved sites, and schedules can be flexible. All match activities emphasize fun, friendship, and asset development. We provide training and on-going professional support to all volunteers. We seek to match each child with an appropriate, caring mentor who will have a lasting, positive impact on the child's life. In the eyes of the child, what matters is that they have an adult friend to spend time with, confide in, relax with, and look up to. As a result of being matched with a Big Brother or Big Sister, a high percentage of children do better in school, have improved self-esteem, demonstrate more respect for others, have more positive relationships with peers and family members, and are more motivated to achieve.
History:
Since 1974, BBBS has provided services to children in the Greater Billings area. We are an affiliate of Big Brothers Big Sisters of America (BBBSA), the nation's oldest and largest youth mentoring organization. We adhere to a uniform set of rigorous standards and procedures that strive to ensure that each match is safe, suited to the child's needs, harmonious, and and built to last. BBBSA is the premier youth mentoring organization in the United States, comprised of more than 500 agencies in all 50 states. BBBSA has served millions of children since its inception in 1904, primarily through one-to-one, professionally supported relationships with caring adult volunteers.
