Angela's Piazza is a woman's drop-in center dedicated to the support, education and empowerment of women. The purpose of this center is to provide open hospitality. The aim is to provide a safe, accepting, nurturing environment where women may gather to talk, listen to one another, helping one another and themselves, and bringing healing and empowerment.

Description:
In addition to the individual informal counseling, we provide a number of programs to answer needs of women, such as domestic violence support and education, a 12 step program for Native American women, support for at-risk pre-teen girls, parenting classes, etc. We also provide appropriate referrals when necessary and act as an advocate with legal and social service agencies. We provide individual support for women who are involved with other agencies. Another of our aims is to encourage a sense of community, which is often lacking for the women we serve. To do this, we have parties from time to time. We also try to involve women in activities that support the operation of the center, if they are willing to do so. We provide a particular haven for urban Indian women who are somewhat cut off from their support systems in this setting. Besides receiving concrete help with their problems, the center is open as a place where women may come in, relax, read and visit with other people when they are lonely and have no other place to go. We provide coffee and snacks as well as sometimes a meal in these situations. We strive to live up to our name as a "Piazza". This is a place where anyone can come and belong.

History:
Angela's Piazza opened its doors on February 1, 1998 and has operated continuously since that time. We are nearing our 10th anniversary! Our programs have grown out of requests by individual women. Other programs are also offered from time to time, such as more enrichment type experiences. Most of these are short term programs.
