The Education Foundation will offer reading and other fun activities during the summer of 2008 in conjunction with School District 2's free summer lunch program in the parks. We are looking for volunteers who enjoy children. It is a one hour commitment one or more times a week for volunteers to read with the children in South, North, and Central Parks. Reading Rocks will run from June 23rd - July 31st this year. Our schedule will be from 12:00 to 1:00 p.m. as follows: Mondays and Wednesdays – North Park (6th Ave. N. and 21st Street) Tuesdays and Thursdays – Central Park (Central and 10th Street West) Thursdays – South Park (S. 6th Street and Broadway) Low income children lose four months in reading level during the summer months whereas middle income children maintain the same reading level. In order to keep up with their peers, it is imperative that kids read during the summer.
Volunteers must be at least fourteen years old and enjoy helping younger children. There will be a volunteer training session on June 11th at 5 p.m. and June 12th at noon at the Lincoln Center in Room 216. We ask that new volunteers attend one of the training sessions. This opportunity is sponsored by: Education Foundation for Billings Public Schools
We need volunteers who are free at these times
