The Potomac Association
Powered by Truist

Last updated on June 23, 2008

The Potomac Association is a vibrant and active 501-c-3 Non-Profit educational organization dedicated to honoring Franklin Delano Roosevelt and his era. The ship offers educational programs for local school children, tours of the ship, and regular history cruises and special event cruises. She is a lovely historic vessel with many tales to tell, just ask our fabulous docents. The Potomac is moored near the ferry dock at London Square, Oakland.

Description:
The Potomac Association is operated primarily by a group of fun and knowledgeable volunteers, and one full time employee. Volunteer activities include giving tours of the Yacht combined with an historical commentary on FDR's time spent aboard the "Floating White House." Ship maintenance, if you like to tinker with really big engines, computer operations, group presentations, and general office work are other volunteer opportunities.

History:
Following Presidential service The USS Potomac passed through many private owners finally to be acquired by the Port of Oakland. The Potomac Association was created to oversee the restoration of the yacht with local community contributions and a Federal grant. The vessel opened in 1995 for public tours and Bay cruises.
