The Children's Network of Solano County is a nonprofit organization committed to improving the lives of children in Solano County through education, advocacy, coordination of community services and community-based collaboratives.

Description:
We support the efforts of three Board-appointed advisory councils:

-the Solano Children's Alliance which was established by the Board of Supervisors (BOS) in 1982 to improve the quality, accessibility and coordination of children’s services in Solano County;

-the Child Abuse Prevention Council whose mission is “To ensure the safety, well-being and protection of all children and families in Solano County through effective child abuse prevention and support of intervention and treatment”; and

-the Local Child Care Planning Council which serves as a forum to identify and address the child care needs of families, both subsidized and non-subsidized in Solano County.

We also support the work of six major collaboratives that are working on improving the lives of children and their families in different ways. These include:

-the Family Resource Center Network, a coordinated partnership of the Family Resource Centers located in each city in Solano County;

-the Integrated Family Support Initiative (IFSI), funded by First 5 Solano, a multidisciplinary, county-wide effort to provide seamless family support services through home visits to isolated, at-risk families and their children ages 0-5;

-the Solano Parenting Partnership, a collaborative that supports parents in raising children by linking families to parenting classes, support groups and parenting resources;

-the Centralized Eligibility List project, a centralized web-based waiting list for all families in Solano County requesting, and eligible to receive, state or federally funded child care subsidies;

-the CARES program, established to increase the educational and retention levels of the child care workforce in order to improve the quality of child care and development services;

-Constructing Connections, whose purpose is to streamline the child care facilities financing and development system in Solano County to promote the development of additional high quality child care programs.

History:
The Children’s Network was established as a 501(c)3 in 1982 in response to community demand for better oversight of children’s services. Children constitute about one third of Solano County’s population, yet they have no vote. Our purpose is to assure there is a strong, united, independent voice for all of our children. Since our inception, our primary approach to this work has been to support and partner with Board of Supervisors-appointed advisory bodies described above.
