The YWCA of Contra Costa/Sacramento is dedicated to empowering women and families from diverse backgrounds. Our services build self-worth, social and emotional health on a foundation of tolerance and social equity.
Description:
The YWCA has deep roots in the Contra Costa and Sacramento communities. It is a place where: working families find safe, nurturing child care; people can come for counseling and healing; low-income senior women can find safe, affordable housing; girls and women are empowered to reach their full potential; women can learn about breast cancer and get free mammograms; community organizations can rent meeting space; and diversity is supported and valued.
History:
The YWCA of Contra Costa started in the Richmond area and then expanded into the communities of Antioch, Bay Point, Brentwood, Concord and Martinez. Opened in 1891, the YWCA in Sacramento was the first YWCA in California. Throughout Contra Costa County and in Sacramento, our programs are designed to help women and girls, families and communities achieve their goals and make their own place in the world.
