Our mission is the preservation and restoration of the SS Red Oak Victory as an operational vessel. The Red Oak, when restored to operational status, will offer day trips to the public and special event excursions on San Francisco Bay.
Description:
The Red Oak Victory is berthed in the "Rosie The Riveter" National Park in Richmond. We are fortunate to have our ship docked in the beautiful Richmond Harbor with a 270 degree picturesque view of San Francisco Bay, the city, Alcatraz, Angel, & Treasure Islands, plus two bay bridges. The Richmond Museum Association has been dedicated since 1996 in preserving the Red Oak Victory. As a community resource the vessel is a site for local community events, service to the children and youth of the community and a unique family recreation and entertainment destination. All museum members at all levels of staffing and working on the SS Red Oak Victory are volunteers. The museum is always looking for new members to enhance our programs.
History:
The Richmond Museum Association was formed in 1954 and has operated the Richmond Museum of History since that time. The RMA acquired the SS Red Oak Victory in 1996. The ship until 1996 was stored in the Mothball Fleet in Suisun Bay. In 1998 the Red Oak was moved to a new berth near Ferry Point in Pt. Richmond, and two years ago to its current location in Richmond Harbor at the "Rosie the Riveter" National Park. 2008 marks the 10th anniversary of our efforts in restoring the "Red Oak".
