The mission of the VA Palo Alto Health Care System is to serve the veteran through compassionate, innovative, comprehensive, accessible, quality patient care, in a safe and supportive environment, while promoting excellence in research and education.

We assist veteran patients by augmenting staff with end of life care programs, foster care, community-based volunteer programs, in hospital and nursing homes care, and veteran outreach centers.

Founded in 1946 to provide for our nation's veterans while they are cared for by VA health care facilities
We are one of the largest centralized volunteer program in the Federal government. Over 350 organizations support Veterans Administration Volunteer Service. Our volunteers have provided over 676 million hours of service since 1946.
