The California Senior Legislature is a non-partisan all volunteer organization that researches and creates legislative proposals designed to improve the quality of life for California's senior population.
Description:
I have been appointed the chair of the recently created Fund Development Committee for the California Senior Legislature. In this capacity I will be responsible for finding ways in which to raise funds for this organization. My reason for signing up at the Volunteer Center of the East Bay, is that even though the CSL is a state wide organization, I reside in Contra Costa County. So contact information, etc. will be to my residence, and not to the California Senior Legislature offices in Sacramento. Anyone who agrees to work with me will not be required to commute to Sacramento. Rather they will work directly with me in Walnut Creek.
History:
The California Senior Legislature was formed over 25 years ago by then State Assembly Member Henry Mello. Members of the CSL must be 60 years or older and are elected by their peers. The Area Agency on Aging, Advisory Council on Aging is the peer group that elects legislators to represent them. The California Senior Legislature is not in any way associated with the California State government and is not funded out of State funds. Our funding comes from contributions via the State Income Tax Form under "Contributions", Line 52 "California Fund for Senior Citizens". We are partners with the California Congress of Seniors who are a 501c3 non profit.
