Friends of Five Creeks seeks to protect and restore the creeks and watersheds of North Berkeley, Albany, Kensington, and south El Cerrito and Richmond.
Description:
We do hands-on restoration at more than a half-dozen sites, in addition to public education and advocacy. We have monthly work parties, a weekly "weekday warriors" group, and many work parties for schools, religious groups, businesses, and the like. We remove invasives, plant natives, control erosion, build trails, install signs, and otherwise make creeks beautiful, safe, and friendly to people and wildlife. We also work to educate the public about clean water and other environmental issues. We have meetings with public speakers, write and distribute materials, staff tables and fairs and festivals, and have fun activities from tours of others' restoration projects to making environmental art.
History:
We were founded in 1996 in Albany, California.
