Experience Corps is a local nonprofit, where adults 55 and older can make a difference in a child's life by sharing their time, love and commitment.

Description:
We currently serve six elementary schools throughout North and East Oakland and are looking for more caring older adults to tutor and mentor children. The commitment level varies, and can be anywhere from two to fourteen hours a week. We are also flexible - volunteers can work in individual, matched pairs or on projects that they have an interest in. Experience Corps has an 89% retention rate, and the rate is so high because we have a supportive, team model. We provide support and encouragement to our volunteers, as well as to the communities they serve.

History:
Founded by John Gardner in 1988, Experience Corps has served the Oakland community since 2005. Experience Corps serves in over 20 cities across the US and has over 2,000 members.
