Independent Living Resource was founded to provide advocacy support and services to empower the elderly and people with disabilities to live as independently as possible, as they choose in an environment free of physical and attitudinal barriers, and support social and economic integration and contribution of people with disabilities in our communities in Contra Costa and Solano Counties. Our programs and services are based on the principle that the elderly and people with disabilities have the same needs as everyone else, but that the methods of meeting these needs may vary. Independent living is not only an ideology and a goal, but a realizable achievement through the development of support systems which promote productivity. Persons with disabilities want to be encouraged to strive toward their fullest potential based on the abilities of the total individual. In order to achieve independent living, we must work to achieve societal and organizational responses which are based on the of all people.
