The mission statement for Music for Minors II is "to nurture the love and literacy of music in children through instruction, participation, and performance enhancing academic education with the musical arts."
Description:
Music for Minors II (MFMII) recruits, trains, monitors, and supports volunteer music docents from the community-at-large to teach one-half hour lessons of music integration into the curriculum involving singing, dancing, playing rhythm instruments, and music appreciation. We provide a 54-hour training program which takes place from September through November each year in both Fremont and Castro Valley. We provide all materials and have resource centers for checking out instruments, CD's, books, puppets and curriculum materials. We work closely with the schools and the teachers to provide a totally integrated musical and academic experience for the students.
History:
In the early 1970's in Santa Clara Count, due to the lack of music education in the elementary schools, a group of concerned community members established a non-profit organization which they names Music for Minors. An East Bay parent learned of MFM and started the same program in Fremont in 1988 which was named Music for Minors II. MFMII has grown from Fremont in Newark and Castro Valley schools.
