Public and Environmental Health Advisory Board

The Public and Environmental Health Advisory Board (PEHAB) is a 19-member community board that is a special appointment by the Contra Costa Board of Supervisors. PEHAB's role is to advise Contra Costa Health Services on emerging community health concerns and recommend strategies and actions to address them. It is a dynamic link between the community and the Health Department and the Board of Supervisors, helping to guide the Department in providing services that meet critical needs in the community.

Description:
Specifically, PEHAB:
This is a strong advocacy board and an important voice for all of the communtiy.

Anticipates emerging health concerns to initiate prevention programs.
Focuses public health initiatives in communities with the most limited resources or least access to resources.
Balances available resources with growing needs.
Advocate for increased action to improve community health.

History:
PEHAB's recent accomplishments in health care access to services and environmental health.

Wrote and distributed the Medi-Cal Managed Care Briefing Paper to educate community leaders and policy makers about the transition of Medi-Cal clients to managed care.
Wrote and distributed Pesticides in Contra Costa County (2MB PDF, 24pp.)
Wrote and distributed Consumption of Contaminated Fish (500k PDF, 14pp.)
Successfully advocated with the local Board of Supervisors to pass an Integrated Pest Management Policy for Contra Costa County.
Developed a comprehensive plan to reduce risk factors associated with chronic disease among populations at highest risk for disease in Contra Costa.
