Provide Contra Costa Region and Greater Bay Area with a broad creative vision which reflects and engages its diverse audience, and provide dialogue between artists and the community.

Description:
The Bedford Gallery is a program of the City of Walnut Creek's Department of Arts, Recreation, and Community Services. With 3,500 square feet of exhibition space, we are the largest community-based visual arts facility between the Bay Area and Sacramento. In addition to organizing and presenting five to six exhibitions each year, we offer lectures, workshops, panel discussions, as well as other public programs such as school, senior, and adult tours. Our Bedford Gallery Docent Council receives professional training in both art history and teaching techniques, while our Gallery Guild staffs the reception desk, hosts receptions and special events, and produces annual fundraising events.

History:
The Lesher Center for the Arts opened in October 1990 as a result of a 20 million dollar campaign conducted by the City of Walnut Creek, working together with over 2,000 community members and institutions in Contra Costa County. The Gallery was originally founded in 1968 as the Civic Arts Gallery, and upon its relocation in the new center, was renamed for Peter and Kirsten Bedford, who donated generously to the Regional Center campaign.
