The mission of Humanity East Bay is to create successful homeownership opportunities for families with limited incomes by building sustainable housing and revitalizing neighborhoods.
Description:
Habitat for Humanity East Bay is a nonprofit that provides affordable, ownership, "green" housing. We build homes in partnership with low and very low income families with children, alongside community volunteers and donors. We then sell the homes "at cost" to the families, who have contributed 500 hours of sweat equity in building their home and those of their neighbors. Volunteers assist with construction, serve on committees, and support special events.
History:
Habitat for Humanity East Bay was formed in 1988 as an independent affiliate of Habitat for Humanity International. Habitat East Bay serves Alameda and Contra Costa counties. In 2008, Habitat East Bay will celebrate its 20th anniversary, the completion of its 200th local home, and the contribution of $1 million to support building efforts worldwide!
