To provide counseling services, assessment, and crisis intervention for children, adolescents, families, couples and adults. Short term placement for runaway and homeless youth, and youth in crisis. Family mediation. Long-term foster placement for children aged 7 -17 referred from Social Services. Foster family services for children in need.
Description:
Northern California Family Center (NCFC) provides short-term and extended foster care services for youth in need. We serve runaway and homeless youth in voluntary, short-term care. Families can use our services for a "cooling off" period, at no charge. NCFC also provides extended foster care services for youth in need. NCFC provides counseling services on a sliding scale for the local community. NCFC manages the Safe Place Program for Contra Costa County, providing sites in the community, such as fire stations, where youth can get immediate help.
History:
NCFC has been in existence since 1978. Though we serve clients of all ages, we have specialized in serving adolescent youth and their families. We began sheltering runaway and homeless youth in short term foster care in 1996. In 2004, we extended our services to provide foster care to all age children for variable lengths of time.
