Last updated on May 26, 2008

We seek to preserve, promote, and interpret the history of the Walnut Creek area and to record the significant changes and events. We believe that a community that understands its past and present will have more community spirit and will make better decisions about its future.

Description:
This stately Colonial Revival-style mansion, built in 1903 by Walnut Creek pioneer, Hiram Penniman, retains many of its original furnishings. Once the centerpiece of the large Shadelands Ranch, this museum now houses regional artifacts and documents and offers group tours and a living history program for elementary school children.

History:
The Walnut Creek Historical Society was formed in 1965 and throughout most of its history has supported and run the Shadelands Ranch Museum and its interpretive programs. The society also publishes local history and actively collects documents and artifacts from Walnut Creek.
