The Mission of SHELTER, Inc. is to help homeless and low-income Contra Costans obtain economic self-sufficiency, to sustain permanent housing, to promote innovative homeless prevention programs, and to enhance human dignity.
Description:
SHELTER, Inc. is an independent charitable, non-profit corporation originally created by the Contra Costa County Board of Supervisors to alleviate Contra Costa County's homeless crisis. Goals: To establish and operate emergency shelters, transitional housing, and long term affordable housing, including supportive services and special needs population services. To develop and manage rental assistance and other innovative homeless prevention programs. To coordinate services and create new programs for the homeless. To provide education and information to the community about homelessness, fair housing, and the specific issues and needs of homeless people.
