Smiley Dog Rescue is an all volunteer based non- profit whose mission is to rescue dogs who are at risk for euthanasia in local animal shelters.
Description:
Dogs end up in animal shelters for many reasons. Mostly they come in as stray or abandoned animals who are untrained and/or under socialized. Our mission is to save the lives of these dogs by placing them in foster homes, providing them with love, attention, and some amount of training and socialization, prior to finding them new homes. We also provide our dogs with any medical attention that they need as well as spay/neuter and vaccinations. Many of our dogs have injuries that we care for and fix. Our website www.smileydogrescue.org is the primary means of finding homes for our animals, however we do weekly Saturday adoption events to show them.
History:
Smiley Dog Rescue began in 2000 and has grown from a 10 person volunteer group to a 50 person volunteer group. We have rescued and re-homed approximately 1500 animals since we became an an organization. We named our organization after a dog named Smiley who was abused and abandoned by his owners. Smiley beat the odds by surviving without food and water for several weeks. His story is one of courage and tenacity.

I volunteered for Smiley Dog over the summer. It was quite uplifiting to witness so many humble and compassionate volunteers who are willing to set aside several hours from their busy schedules to help out. The dogs are wonderful and truly deserve a beautiful place to call home. posted on June 6, 2008 |
