Last updated on November 14, 2008

Our mission is to break the cycle of addiction, that causes crime, violence, homelessness and broken families.

We are a place where miracles happen, where recovery takes place every day among people who had previously been considered unrecoverable.

Description:
Options Recovery Services is a 12 month outpatient drug and alcohol treatment program built around intensive case management, and clean and sober housing in collaboration with the criminal justice system and other social services agencies.

We receive referrals from the courts, local state prisons, and other social services agencies. Many of our clients are brought to us by concerned families and friends.

We provide services to people with co-occuring substance abuse and mental health problems in our own mental health clinic staffed by licensed Marriage and Family Therapists (MFT), and MFT Interns.

We have separate programs for men and women.

We provide health screenings.

We provide emergency shelter referrals to the shelter located in the basement of our facility and transitional housing placements in Options' owned houses.

Sixty-five percent (65%) of our clients are people of color, thirty percent (30%) of our clients are women and most of them have children. Ninety-five percent (95%) of our clients are below the poverty level and sixty-four (64%) are homeless.

History:
Options Recovery Services was founded in 1996 as the case management provider for the Berkeley Misdemeanor Treatment Court and has since gradually added services as the need arose. Since the beginning we have worked in collaboration with the criminal justice system, advocating for treatment for offenders addicted to alcohol and drugs, and serves as a liaison with the courts, probation and State Parole.

Our founder, Davida Coady M.D., M.P.H. has more than 35 years experience working with the poor, including developing refugee health programs in the United States and the Third World.

Options is certified by the California Department of Alcohol and Drug Programs and is a funded partner of the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation, the Alameda County Behavioral Health Care Services, and The City of Berkeley
