We are a bay area non-profit arts organization dedicated to enhancing the lives of older adults through art.

Our mission is to educate the general public and funding organizations to the fact that when older adults participate in activities that involve creative self-expression, the quality of their lives -- mentally, physically and emotionally-- significantly increases. Now national research is proving this.

Description:
We are a public relations organization; a production company; and we are educators. We have produced two Art of Aging Festivals, one in SF and one is Berkeley; we give lectures around the Ba Area on creative aging; and we are currently creating the Bay Area's First Creative Aging Resource Guide. We are a growing community of artists and arts providers, businesses, government and non-government organizations and individuals who understand the value of creative self-expression for elders.

History:
Creative Aging West was founded in 2001 as a loosely formed group of artists who were providing arts programs to elders. By 2004, we had become the successful producers of The Art of Aging, An Evening of Performance Celebrating Elders in the Arts. This theatrical event opened the American Society on Aging/National Council on Aging’s Joint Conference that year.

In September 2005, we produced our 2nd Art of Aging Festival at the Julia Morgan Center for the Arts in Berkeley. This time we expanded the event to a two-day Festival featuring an evening performance and a day of Creative Aging workshops. Please click on songwritingworks.org/festival for Festival details.

We are also the western regional network of the National Center for Creative Aging (creativeaging.org). Our fiscal sponsor is Stagebridge, the nation’s oldest senior theatre company, now celebrating its 27th season.
