Our mission is to promote and celebrate connections between nature, family and community at Oakland’s Feather River Camp in the Plumas National Forest

We create unique opportunities to advance environmental awareness, cultural diversity, and youth empowerment.

Description:
Camps in Common is the non profit operator of Oakland Feather River Camp. Feather River Camp serves youth and families and is located in Plumas National Forest, outside of Quincy, CA. In this pristine and safe environment campers stay in cabins or tent-cabins and participate in outdoor recreational activities.

Teen & youth programs focus on building leadership skills, self confidence, self esteem, and a positive attitude toward life while having a great time in community with fellow campers and becoming comfortable in the natural environment. Scholarships are provided for youth who would, otherwise, not be able to attend.

Family camp programs focus on supporting parents to have some time off while the kids are having a ball each morning. In the afternoons and evenings family activities provide a way for families to bond and grow closer to one another.

Camps in Common has a concessionaire's agreement with the city of Oakland and works collaboratively with the Oakland Parks and Recreation Department to bring urban youth to the camp for a life-altering experience.

History:
Camps in Common was formed in 2003 in response to the City of Oakland's attempt to close the camp. At that time campers stepped forward to petition to keep the camp open and Camps in Common was born.

Camps in Common has been operating Feather River Camp for five years with great success. Programs have been revitalized and the camp is experiencing a resurgence of visitors, both old and new.
