Description:
The California Shakespeare Theater currently produces four plays each year, with a total of over 100 performances between May and October. Our 2004 Season productions are Shakespeare's The Comedy of Errors, a brand new adaptation by Dakin Matthews of Shakespeare's Henry IV, Parts One and Two, The Importance of Being Earnest by Oscar Wilde, and Shakespeare's All's Well That Ends Well . Since Jonathan Moscone joined Cal Shakes in 2000, the Theater has broadened its programming to include other important writers of world theater, such as Anton Chekhov, Thornton Wilder, and Tom Stoppard.

History:
The California Shakespeare Theater, an award-winning theater company founded in 1974, has evolved from an artistic collective performing outdoors at Berkeley's John Hinkel Park, into a fully professional theater enjoying broad community support and guided by strong artistic leadership. In 1991, following a $3 million capital campaign, the California Shakespeare Theater moved to its permanent home, the Bruns Memorial Amphitheater, in the East Bay hills between Berkeley and Orinda. 'The Bruns' seats 545 patrons, many of whom enjoy pre-performance picnics on the beautiful grounds.
