The North Berkeley Senior Center offers a variety of classes taught by volunteers, Berkeley Adult School, and Berkeley City College instructors. Most classes are free of charge. There are intergenerational reading and interactive programs on site. The Center offers a variety of trips plus access to discount/free theater tickets. There are health focused offerings such as exercise classes, support groups, blood pressure readings, and free massages.

Description:
Our agency needs volunteers in the following areas:

Meals on Wheels drivers. Deliver one route in Berkeley to 10 homes/apartments one day per week.

Mercy Brown Bag food packing, first and third Fri. 9-12.

Companion volunteer for caregivers and the senior being cared for at home. Two hours per week. May include an errand or visiting at the home in Berkeley.

Gift shop volunteers from Mon. to Fri. One day a week form 10 to 2 p.m.

Class instructors.

Read with children volunteers.

History:
The Senior Center is funded by the City of Berkeley. The food project receives funds from Alameda County. Volunteers have always been a big part of NBSC. Currently Project Open Hand prepares the congregate and home delivered food. There is not enough money for hiring delivery drivers, so we are eager to find volunteers. (A very worthwhile thing to do.)
