Camp Fire USA’s mission is to build caring, confident youth and future leaders. The goal of our after-school program, Kids With Dreams, is to build strong alliances with at-risk youth in order to facilitate their development of personal and social competencies they will need to effectively participate and achieve success in their adolescent and adult life.

Description:
Since 1910, Camp Fire has provided safe and structured environments and programming for youth to develop their talents and abilities. Operating under this larger organization, Kids With Dreams is a comprehensive youth development program annually serving approximately 300 youth, ages 5-18. We’re open all year round to serve school-age youth from families with low-to-moderate incomes. While at Kids With Dreams, the youth receive focused support, encouragement and respect from caring adult allies. They participate in interactive life enrichment activities including homework assistance, literacy and math enhancement, team sports and games, expressive arts and crafts and experience-broadening field trips.

History:
Camp Fire USA was founded in 1910 with the mission of providing youth with support, training and opportunities towards becoming confident and competent leaders. Beginning as Camp Fire Girls, the organization became coeducational in 1975. Decades later, while evolving with the changing needs of our global community, Camp Fire remains true to its original mission. The Kids With Dreams program began in 1991, and for the past 15 years, has upheld the values and goals of Camp Fire. Through this program, hundreds of youth from the West Oakland area have benefited greatly.
